Selection Steps
In this chapter, we address the Steps, fundamental components to ensure consistency and objectivity in the selection of innovative proposals. The selection steps provide an organized structure, guiding the submission process, the selection phase and the direction towards the validation phase. The definition of stages offers a clear guide for application at each point in the innovation funnel, ensuring that proposals advance in line with strategic objectives.
**Structure of the **Selection Stage

The selection steps represent the path that each proposal takes in the innovation funnel, guiding the evaluation process throughout the call phases. Each stage must focus on specific aspects of the proposals to select it, such as strategic relevance, technical innovation, financial viability and expected impact. The clear definition of each stage helps to ensure that proposals advance in the process based on criteria that will be created in the next chapter, thus reducing biases and improving efficiency in filtering and advancing ideas.
By default, we have pre-established on the platform the steps of applied, **completed **and **declined, **in addition to these, it is possible, and necessary, to create your own steps according to your need and strategy, creating the steps and defining them in the space named as their steps.
Applied
First stage, where initial applications are recorded and stored until formal screening or evaluation begins. It is not possible to modify this stage, as it serves as the entry point for all proposals, it is from this point that submissions will be analyzed and considered.
Your Steps
This is the flexible component of the selection steps, allowing you to custom create additional steps based on the needs of the call. You can define a specific name for each step, add a score (especially useful in intrapreneurship calls), and reorder the steps as the assessment process requires. This flexibility helps to organize the screening flow in a way adapted to the company’s strategy.
- Points for Stage Advancement: It is possible to include scores for applications that advance in the stages, scoring the person responsible for the idea as it advances through the stages defined for the innovation call. This functionality is particularly used in idea portal calls, gamifying the process for the employee. These points can be awarded in a competition to determine a champion or exchanged for products in the collaboration workspace.
- Insert Translation: This option allows you to add translations for the steps in different languages, facilitating the participation of a diverse audience. This is especially useful in innovation calls that seek engagement in multilingual contexts.
- Move Step: With this functionality, the user can rearrange the order of the steps. This is useful for managing the screening of submissions throughout the stages, safeguarding the defined business strategy.
CompletedFixed and essential stage that identifies approved and completed proposals, which proceeded to more advanced validation phases, with project plans and hypothesis tests carried out. As in the case of applied applications, this stage is unchangeable.
Declined
Step that functions as a repository for proposals that, after screening and evaluation, are initially considered to have no potential or misaligned with the strategic objectives of the innovation call. Once applied and completed, this step cannot be modified.
Selection Steps Guide
This guide provides detailed instructions for creating and customizing the Steps for an innovation call on the platform. In it, you will find examples and practical guidelines to structure each stage, ensuring that the selection process is organized according to strategic planning, commitment and efficiency in the use of available resources.
Step 1: Access Form Registration
- On the platform, when editing the call, go to Register selection steps > Register steps
- Click on **Start from scratch **to start registering the steps.

Step 2: Selection Steps
When clicking on “Add Option”, a field will appear to name the new step.
In this section, you can create and/or edit the selection steps for an innovation call. Creating the selection stages is an essential phase in configuring an innovation call, as it establishes the flow and organization of the evaluation process. By structuring these steps in a clear and strategic way, the call gains objectivity and ensures that each idea receives adequate and consistent analysis at each stage.
It is recommended to define steps that group criteria and define milestones, which are coherent and relevant to the level of analysis required at each point in the innovation funnel, ensuring flexibility and alignment with the type and purpose of the innovation call.
When creating/editing a selection step, you can also select whether the step will allow you to create project plans. Visit the Projects and Plans page to find out more.
Below are examples of steps that can be adjusted depending on the type of committee involved in each phase of the process:
Example of Steps for Open Innovation Programs
Applied → Initial Screening → Pitches → Bootcamp → Completed | Declined
Steps:1. Applied → Fixed and immutable stage, which receives the submission of proposals and directs them to subsequent stages. 2. Initial Screening → Personalized stage, which aims to perform the initial filtering of proposals to ensure alignment with the theme and basic requirements of the call. 3. Market Assessment → Personalized stage, which fulfills the function of carrying out a preliminary assessment of the market potential of the proposals. 4. Pitches → Personalized stage, pre-selected proponents present their ideas in a pitching session. 5. **Bootcamp ** → Personalized stage, committee evaluates finalist proposals, considering interviews, cases, strategic factors, POC and feasibility. 6. Completed| Declined → Fixed and immutable stages, in which approved proposals advance to experimentation, while others are shelved.
Example of Steps for Idea Portal Calls (Intrapreneurship)
Applied → Calculation → Technical Assessment → Executive Committee → Selected | Declined
Steps:
- Applied → Fixed and immutable stage, employees submit their ideas on the platform.
- Investigation → Personalized stage, screening to verify completeness and compliance of proposals with the internal strategy.
- Technical Assessment → Personalized stage, technical committee evaluates operational and technological feasibility of the proposals.
- Executive Committee → Personalized stage, committee evaluates strategic feasibility and prioritizes the best proposals.
- Completed| Declined → Fixed and immutable stages, proposals with potential move forward for internal development, while others are shelved.
It is important to remember that, for each stage created, the evaluation committees that will be responsible for analyzing the proposals must be carefully considered. The choice of committees must be aligned with the nature of the criteria applied at each stage, as the evaluation criteria will be fundamental for the screening, prioritization and selection of ideas. Each stage and its associated criteria contribute directly to decision-making and the quality of the selection process, ensuring that only the proposals most aligned with the program’s objectives move forward.
Post-Registration of Selection Steps
After defining and registering all the innovation call selection steps, it is important to carry out a careful review and validation of the flow of steps to ensure that it is aligned with the objectives of the call. Below are the key points to guide:
Review of Registered Stages Check the sequence and relevance of each registered step. Confirm that the defined order is logical and leads evaluators through a structured process, from receiving ideas to final selection. This review allows you to identify possible adjustments or reorderings to maximize the fluidity of the process.
Visualization of the Stages in the Innovation FunnelAfter configuring and publishing the call, it is essential to visualize the complete flow in the platform’s innovation funnel. Visualizing the stages in a funnel format allows a clear understanding of the selection process as a whole, highlighting how each phase contributes to the advancement of proposals, from submission to final approval. This real-time monitoring provides a strategic view of the distribution of ideas throughout the process, facilitating performance analysis at each stage and helping to adjust resources, such as time and personnel, as necessary.
With a well-defined and revised stage structure, each idea can be evaluated efficiently and fairly, strengthening decision-making and raising the standard of the innovation program.
Proceed setting up the call in the next steps before publishing it.
We look forward to discovering the creative proposals and perspectives that each participant will bring!
